Forced Oscillation Technique (FOT)
The mechanical properties of the respiratory system may be assessed by applying the forced oscillation technique while the patient is breathing spontaneously. Quark I2M, using this method, has enabled physicians to assess in a very simple way the whole respiratory system impedance (Resistance plus Reactance), in the frequency range 4-48 Hz, of a spontaneously breathing subject
I2M, a Clinical Routine Test
As the application of this non-invasive method does not require the patient's cooperation, it is a useful tool for routine evaluation of respiratory function, epidemiological studies and medical treatment or research. The method is highly sensitive and so accurate to guarantee a reliable trend evaluation of bronchoprovocation test in patients suffering COPD, asthma, or mucoviscidosis.
High Reproducibility !!
Data are extremely accurate and reproducible. The simple design technology provides reliable data over the time. The system does not require any particular maintenance except the common recommendations for disinfection. COSMED recommends to use anti-bacterial filters to prevent cross-contamination.
Application Fields
Forced oscillation technique is particularly suitable for assessing lung function in patient with reduced cooperation or those unable to perform forced expiratory maneuvers such as children or elderly people.
